Taster Recommendation: The gorgeous patio and extensive tequila menu.
Walkermole on Urbanspoon

Walkermole offers casual Mexican dishes in a contemporary, industrial-chic setting. Inside, a large bar area provides ample seating for patrons seeking to sample from the drink menu which includes fantastic fresh margaritas and brands of tequila that can’t be found anywhere else in the city. Walkermole also has a huge patio with ample seating that is perfect for al fresco dining on spring and summer days.

On the menu at Walkermole are modernized versions of Mexican dishes with a heavy emphasis on tacos (2 per order) that actually felt more like appetizers than main courses. There is only a small selection of other entrees available which were both hits (the phenomenal chicken flautas) and misses (the overly-seasoned enchiladas).

We would come back in a heartbeat just to chill out on the patio with a couple of margaritas and some appetizers.

Diner’s Favourites:

Chicken Flautas- The well-seasoned chicken was tender and juicy and contrasted the crispy texture of the fried tortilla. The avocado crema was a great touch.

Tequila- So. Much. Tequila. From cocktails, to classic margaritas, to top-shelf shots that are impossible to come by, Walkermole is the place to go for this tequila.

Diner’s Thoughts:

Taster Girl

I’m always happy when there is a margarita in my hand, and even more so when it is tart, fresh, and strong. The Classic Margarita at Walkermole made me one very happy girl and I had trouble limiting myself to just one. I can only imagine how good the Top-Shelf Margarita must be.

I thoroughly enjoyed the yellowfin tuna ceviche, but let it be know that I’ve never met a ceviche that I didn’t like. The chicken flautas were unbelievably good and probably the best thing on the menu.I was disappointed, however, that chips and salsa weren’t provided for the table. There is a solid selection of flavourful salsas to choose from on the appetizer menu but, quite frankly, I wish they came free with the meal.

Recommendation:Go here for one of two reasons: 1) To order some really good appetizers (like their chips and salsa) and drink the night away with their awesome drinks menu or 2) get a some modernized Mexican grub for a reasonable place. This place can get ridiculously expensive and fast, if you combine 1 and 2.

Aside from the recommendation, the food was great with only one miss of the enchiladas. But overall, I was pleased with the food selection, drinks menu, service and atmosphere. Oh! And Dead Elephant Pale Ale was a perfect touch for their moderately spicy menu.

I don’t drink but the Mexican Soda was fantastic.

I’m not exactly sure what it is I ordered for my main dish, but I really liked it. I got two tacos of some sort with a big side of beans and rice– a reasonable amount of food for my money.

The Philosopher

The major miss on the menu that can’t be overlooked was the enchiladas which were so overly seasoned that it felt like eating a forkful of chili powder.

Mr. Muscles

Let’s be honest, I’m not getting enough meat for my buck here. The only reason I come is for the tequila.

I can get a flight of Don Julio, ‘nuf said.

Little Miss Martini

My carne asada tacos were way to spicy, but that’s probably because my tolerance for hot foods is zero.

The drinks here are great. I ordered the Banana Mama cocktail first because it had the most booze. It was good, but not as good as the Strawberry Daquiri which was just soooo delicious. It tasted fresh like real strawberries, not sickly sweet like those daquiri mixes you get at most places.

  1. Thanks for the review, we will be spending a lot of time looking at the enchilada’s because of it. I appreciate that your criticisms were constructive and specific so that we could discuss them. We will be making several menu changes over the next few weeks and as we believe in continuous improvement, we hope you try us again and compare the new changes and seek your feed back on the improvements. Look for new fish taco’s, new pork taco’s and new enchilada’s. While we may not agree with your assessment on the current enchilada’s we do see that we could improve and hope the new recipe’s willl please you.

Mark I’m excited that you’re looking at the menu again. We are moving into the neighbourhood and looking forward to see the changes! I too found the enchiladas were powdery – too much chili powder that left an aftertaste, however there were many fresh items that were delish and I personally LOVE your tequila selection and the fact that your daiquiris aren’t your typical “island oasis mix”. If you are looking at the menu I suggest a small selection of non-spicy items for us wimpy people. Thank you for keeping it authentic. I’m sure we will be seeing a lot of you guys when we move in October.
