It seems a bit presumptuous to open a pizzeria in Windsor in the middle of a recession. There are a lot of pizza places in the city already and most of them are really, really good, so what would make Vesta Pizzeria & Antipasto Bar, Erie Street’s latest addition, stand out from the rest? I was curious to find out this past weekend.

Right from the get-go the service was fantastic. The waiter, the bartender, and even the chef himself all were informative, very friendly, attentive and genuinely cared.
We started out with salads and some appetizers, most of which are typical Italian antipasti platters of charcuterie and marinated vegetables and the like. The portions of both the salads and the appetizers are generous and perfect for 4 people to share. The Fried Olives stuffed with goat cheese were my absolute favourite appetizer. Fried olives! Who knew?

Next came the real test– the pizzas. There is a sufficient enough selection of these thin crust, wood oven pizzas to please everyone but not so much that it’s overwhelming. We tried 4 different pizzas. Verdict: They’re good. They are at least on par with what you’ll get at Spago Trattoria or The Caboto Club in terms of quality and execution.

The best part of the meal was dessert. (You’re shocked, I know. It’s not like I ever talk highly of dessert or anything like that o_O ) We had the nutella pizza, which is practically a pizzeria staple these days, and it didn’t disappoint (the chef was not shy with the nutella) but the surprise win was the Goddess Kisses – fried dough tossed in cinnamon sugar and drizzled with chocolate that were surprisingly light. I could have done without the chocolate drizzle, but otherwise these were amazing and way too easy to eat.

Overall, I enjoyed Vesta. The food and the atmosphere are great. The service even better. I’ll be back again, definitely with a group because this kind of food is made for sharing.

Overall Analysis:

Our Order – Antipasta alla Griglia, Involtini di Prosciutto e Olive Ripieni, Insalata Casa, Insalata Rustica, Pizza Quattro Stagioni, Pizza Quattro Formaggi, Pizza Romana, Pizza Paesana, Goddess Kisses, and Nutella Pizza.

Come here for: Great Service – the pizza is on par with other area establishments but the service here is more personable.

Taster Girl’s Favourite: Olive Ripieni – olives stuffed with goat cheese and deep fried. It sounds a little over the top (does everything need to be deep fried these days?) but they taste amazing.

Don’t Miss: Goddess Kisses – these light-as-air cinnamon doughnuts are a memorable way to end the meal.

Fantastic service makes this wood oven pizzeria place a win among its many competitors.

Diner’s Quick Thoughts:

Vesta’s pizza tastes exactly the same as my favourite TRUE Italian pizzeria, the Caboto Club. Although, it doesn’t have the varieties of pizza that Caboto has, it makes up for this with well executed traditional appetizers – and the fact that, unlike Caboto, your drink and food orders are on the same bill. Also, there is a patio nestled away within an alley – how romantic! Recommendation: traditional Italian pizza at good prices nestled in a modernized restaurant – share some pizza and some Goddess Kisses with your amore.

The Connoisseur

I like the place. The pizzas are really good especially when you put a little of their homemade chili oil on them.

Miss Positive

I love their pizzas even more so that Caboto. Vesta is very generous with the toppings, and their spicy oil and hot peppers go well with the pies. They have interesting and tasty appetizers. Their Nutella pizza and Goddess Kisses are a must!

The ambiance is cozy, and the service is attentive. I like the fact they offer mainly pizzas, panini, and salads, and do those very well. Definitely a nice addition to competitive Erie St strip.
